The Utilities Dynamic Market (UDM) provides a transparent, continuously open platform for suppliers—including SMEs, new entrants, and established partners—to participate in innovation projects, research, development, trials, pilots, and scalable deployment across the rail sector. The UDM welcomes solutions in areas such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, asset management, network modelling, predictive systems, passenger communications, advanced computation, train control, positioning technologies, and energy management. Suppliers join by meeting proportionate membership conditions and compete for opportunities issued through tender notices based on defined problem statements. The pathway supports collaboration and consortiums, moving from problem identification through market engagement, R&D, trials, pilots, demonstrations, and potential contract awards for wider adoption. Operating under the Procurement Act 2023, the UDM is designed to reduce barriers to innovation by creating a single, accessible entry point that supports both individual suppliers and collaborative partnerships in advancing railway performance, safety, efficiency, passenger experience, and sustainability.
