    Brief

The Authority is continuing a one-year theatre in education contract for the delivery of road safety education to schools. This contract involves a four-week touring production visiting 40 schools with an expected reach of 7,200 students. The core deliverable is 'Split Second', a dynamic multimedia theatre performance that follows three young people and explores how distractions, peer influence, and time pressures affect their behaviour as pedestrians. The performance demonstrates how everyday decisions can lead to life-changing incidents, emphasizing the importance of road awareness and safe decision-making. Each school visit includes an accompanying interactive workshop that reinforces key learning outcomes, including: the leading causes of pedestrian injuries and fatalities (KSIs), personal and wider consequences of road incidents, external influences on young people's behaviour, and practical strategies for managing attitudes and making safer choices. Workshops use interactive techniques such as hot-seating to allow students to challenge characters and unpack their choices, culminating in re-staging pivotal scenes where pupils can intervene and guide characters towards safer outcomes. This empowers students to recognize risk, resist negative peer influence, and build confidence in choosing safer behaviours on the road. The contract runs for one year only with no extension options and will be replaced by a new competitive process with a contract start date of September 2028.
