    Brief

    The City of Karlsruhe's Gardening Office is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of a total of 1,000 hectares of green and landscaped areas, with approximately 500 hectares maintained by service companies. A significant portion of the green spaces listed for maintenance is located along roads, pedestrian paths, and bike lanes. These areas are mowed three times a year to ensure traffic safety, while only a few parks and green spaces are mowed five times a year. The maintenance of green spaces also includes additional tasks such as weeding, hoeing ground cover, and clearing shrubs, technical installations, and paved areas, as well as leaf removal. The City of Karlsruhe places high standards on the use of low-emission and low-noise equipment, such as electric leaf blowers and battery-powered trimmers. The maintenance work is contracted for a period of four years (2026 to 2029) and is divided into 26 different lots. This tender includes the remaining 15 lots. The quantity of maintenance work and the number of maintenance categories vary across the individual lots. The areas can be mowed with larger riding mowers or other mowing machines. 199 hectares Weeding and hoeing of shrub and perennial areas Remove unwanted growth on tree discs, shrub, and perennial areas with roots (5 cm deep) twice a year. 45 hectares Clearing work Clear shrubs and shrub edges 1 to 3 times, such as: • Clearing shrubs and shrub edges • Clearing road areas with installations • Mulching unwanted growth in shrub areas, such as tree seedlings, shrubs, and blackberries • Clearing paved areas 20 hectares Leaf collection Completely collect and dispose of leaves on lawns, fall protection areas, paths, and squares. 90 hectares Mowing work on meadows with safety measures Mow meadows 3 times, with safety measures. The areas can be mowed with larger riding mowers or other mowing machines. 38.5 hectares Clearing work with safety measures Clear shrubs and shrub edges 3 times with safety measures, such as: • Clearing shrubs and shrub edges • Clearing road areas with installations • Mulching unwanted growth in shrub areas, such as tree seedlings, shrubs, and blackberries • Clearing paved areas 4.9 hectares Leaf collection with safety measures Completely collect and dispose of leaves with safety measures on lawns, fall protection areas, paths, and squares. 2.1 hectares.
