Basildon Station Platform Renewal and Lift Replacement

C2c is seeking a contractor for the design and build of platform and lift replacements at Basildon station in Essex. The work includes detailed design and construction of renewed Platforms 1 and 2, replacement of both passenger lifts, and associated infrastructure and station systems. Basildon station, built in the 1970s on a 1930s embankment, has platforms with short canopies over a bridge deck spanning Station Way highway and the booking hall. The remaining platforms feature suspended concrete construction. Following serious structural defects and movement discovered in summer 2021, the platforms were deemed beyond economic repair and have been temporarily propped and monitored pending renewal. This Design and Build contract, procured via JCT contract terms, covers demolition and complete renewal of the 1974 platform sections and both lifts. Interested suppliers should have experience in railway infrastructure renewal, structural engineering for elevated platforms, lift systems integration, and working within operational station environments. The project is in GRIP stages 5-8 and scheduled for 2026.
