    Brief

The Department for Education (DfE) is seeking applications from schools to implement the Teaching Internships Program for the years 2026, 2027, and 2028. Successful schools will receive a three-year grant to create and run a three-week teaching internship, typically held in June and July at the end of the academic year. This program is aimed at undergraduates in their second, third, or final year, as well as master's students studying STEM subjects and modern foreign languages. For 2026, each intern can receive up to £2,065, which includes £1,365 paid upon completion of the internship and up to £700 allocated to the school for coordination and recruitment costs (excluding marketing). Eligible schools must be rated 'good' or higher in their most recent Ofsted inspection and should be able to recruit and host at least five interns, including those for maths and physics. The program aims to provide interns with valuable teaching experience and to attract students to teach subjects such as maths, physics, chemistry, computing, design and technology, and modern foreign languages. In summer 2026, the program will also pilot design and technology internships.
