Brickwork Construction for School Expansion

SBH | Schulbau Hamburg, a state-owned enterprise of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, is responsible for planning, constructing, maintaining, and managing school properties while considering educational needs and economic principles. They manage over 400 schools and lease them to the Authority for School and Vocational Education (BSB). The Max-Schmeling Community School currently has 1,120 students across two locations: Denksteinweg 17 (450 students) in the Jenfeld district and Oktaviostraße 143 (670 students) at the border of the Marienthal district. Both locations currently offer secondary education (grades 5-10) in 3.5 classes. The Oktaviostraße location also provides secondary education (grades 11-13) in four classes. Due to a significant increase in student enrollment in recent years, both locations will be expanded. The Oktaviostraße site requires an additional 10 classrooms, 7 specialized classrooms, an expanded dining area, and a new one-court sports hall with ancillary spaces. This additional need for classrooms and specialized rooms will be realized in a new classroom building with a gross floor area of 2,067 m². The sports hall will be constructed on the adjacent Gymnasium Marienthal site due to space constraints. The classroom building will feature a green roof (non-accessible) and a photovoltaic system, and it will be connected to the district heating network of Hamburger Energiewerke GmbH, which is set to be expanded. There is a limited rainwater drainage connection to the municipal drainage system. The new classroom building will be located at the rear of the school property, with the possibility of an independent construction access route via Oktaviostraße.
