    Brief

The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) is launching a series of procurements to deliver frontier artificial intelligence (AI) solutions through Programme FRONTIER, a multi-year initiative to enhance warfighter advantage. The initial focus is on AI tools and capabilities that reduce MOD's cyber defence risk. The MOD is seeking mature, operationally-ready AI solutions that can be deployed into Security Operations Centres (SOCs) within months to deliver tangible cyber risk reduction. This is an Industry Day notice providing early market visibility ahead of formal tender. An in-person Suppliers Conference is scheduled for 17th July 2026 (with virtual attendance available) to explain the opportunity, outline the commercial process, and discuss how organisations—particularly SMEs and non-traditional defence suppliers—can participate. The procurement will follow the Procurement Act 2023 via the Government Commercial Agency (GCA) Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) for Artificial Intelligence, using a competitive flexible procedure with conditions of participation and invitation to tender stages. The estimated value of the initial contract suite is approximately £8 million, with a total programme value of approximately £100 million. The MOD expects a multi-supplier approach encouraging collaboration, flexibility, and SME participation. Evaluation will prioritize solutions demonstrating measurable cyber risk reduction, operational maturity and deployability, security compliance, whole-life value for money, and support for UK sovereignty. Solutions must be sufficiently mature for immediate operational deployment—not development proposals, proofs of concept, or demos on representative systems. UK-hosted services are preferred. Bidders should demonstrate understanding of defence and national security environments, though prior MOD experience is not mandatory.
