    Brief

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is commissioning research to understand how AI adoption works in practice across its sectors. The project has two main components: (1) An ethnographic study examining how businesses and their employees actually use AI tools in their work, including challenges faced and benefits realised; and (2) Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) testing policy interventions to support AI adoption. Rather than relying on self-reported data, this project prioritises robust, direct evidence of what works. Bidders may propose alternative methodologies if justified. The work will be procured through either a Competitive Flexible Procedure under the Procurement Act 2023 or the RM6126 Research and Insights framework. This forms part of the DCMS Science and Analysis R&D Programme and will run from 2027-2030 alongside related research projects on audience information pathways, cultural engagement tracking, and major event impact assessment.
