Renovation of Doors and Windows at Bonn University Hospital

The Bonn University Hospital (UKB) is located on a 43-hectare site on Venusberg. The campus features new buildings for Neurology, Psychiatry, and Palliative Medicine (NPP) and existing structures for Neurosurgery and Epileptology, contributing to a significant neuroscience focus at the University of Bonn. This focus has developed into an internationally recognized center, especially in collaboration with the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) and the Max Planck Society's caesar research center. The current layout of the hospital needs reorganization due to issues such as inefficient infrastructure, long transport routes, and small units caused by the existing building structure. A master plan has been developed to enhance the hospital's competitiveness and future viability, with annual updates to adapt to new findings. The NPP project is a key milestone in centralizing hospital operations on the Venusberg campus. Essential healthcare functions will be relocated from the existing Neurology building (Building 082) to the new NPP building, freeing up significant space for future use. This project includes planning for the renovation and repurposing of the existing spaces, primarily for laboratory use, to meet the urgent need for research facilities. The Neurocenter complex, which includes Buildings 81 and 82, was established from a competition in the late 1950s, with the first phase completed in 1965. The buildings have many interior rooms without natural light, affecting working conditions. The project aims to address the need for research space while minimizing construction work. An open procedure will initially focus on the hazardous material remediation work.
