Community Ophthalmology Service

NHS Thames Valley ICB is seeking a provider to deliver community-based eye care services for patients aged 16 and over in outpatient settings. The service should diagnose and treat specific eye conditions that do not require hospital-level secondary care and are outside the scope of primary care optometry services. Key requirements include: accepting referrals from GPs and optometrists through a triage service, providing first appointments within 3 weeks of referral, and limiting follow-up appointments to a maximum of one per patient unless clinically necessary. This contract addresses common eye conditions managed in the community setting, improving access to specialist care while reducing unnecessary hospital referrals. The contract has been awarded following NHS procurement regulations (PSR Direct Award C). Prospective providers should have experience in outpatient ophthalmology delivery and efficient patient management pathways.
