    Brief

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is seeking a 4-year research fellowship to develop and validate new scientific approaches for assessing the safety risks of chemical mixtures in food. This project supports the FSA's mission to ensure food is safe and help consumers make informed choices. The research will use advanced computational (in-silico) and laboratory (in-vitro) testing methods, known as New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), to evaluate how combinations of chemicals affect human health. The fellowship is part of the Chemical, Radiological and Allergy (ChemRA) Research and Evidence Programme and addresses a key FSA research priority: understanding chemical and radiological risks in food. Chemicals in food may come from intentional additives, contamination, natural sources, or other means. The successful fellow will generate evidence on practical toxicity endpoints relevant to consumers, support cross-government collaboration on chemical safety data systems, and advance scientific capability across UK government departments. This work directly contributes to the FSA's 2022-2027 strategy pillar of maintaining food safety standards.
