Fire Shutter Repair and Investigation at IMO Second Floor

The horizontal escalator fire shutter at IMO is currently inoperable and requires remedial works. Three fire shutter specialists have assessed the situation and determined that a like-for-like replacement is not feasible due to the shutter's age, lack of available manufacturers, and the complexity of horizontal systems. Two specialists recommended replacing it with a vertical shutter, which would require structural modifications. The third specialist has advised that repair is the most practical solution, as the shutter was originally installed as a single pre-assembled unit weighing over one ton, making replacement and transportation to the second floor extremely challenging. The specialist suspects the end locks are caught, causing the shutter to move along one side only and become entangled in its housing. This contract is for the initial phase: opening the shutter casing (£26k) to expose the fire shutter, release the suspected jam, and make good. Subject to further investigation once the casing is opened and the full extent of damage is determined, a follow-up contract of up to £100k may be required for parts replacement, motor, new curtain, panels, and other necessary components.
