Manchester Airport Station Platform Expansion - Shotcrete Installation Works

Manchester Airport station requires platform capacity improvements to accommodate longer train services (144m trains) and support future demand growth. This project is part of the Manchester and North West Transformation Programme (MNTP) Tranche 1, which aims to enhance capacity and resilience across the Manchester rail network. The shotcrete works contract involves preparation and installation of sprayed concrete reinforcement on contiguous piled retaining walls to support platform additions or extensions. Work includes: surface preparation and cleaning of existing walls, supply and installation of mesh reinforcement and anchor bars, application of injection mortar, sprayed concrete (shotcrete) supply and installation with curing and finishing, formation and sealing of expansion and construction joints, protection of adjacent assets from rebound and overspray, comprehensive testing and quality assurance, and removal of rebound material and waste. Contractors must work within a live rail and airport operational environment, adhering to all Network Rail and project safety requirements. This is a specialist civil engineering project requiring experience with shotcrete application in controlled, safety-critical settings.
