Design and Construction Services for Low-Level Waste Repository Vault Optimisation and Capping

Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) is seeking an experienced contractor to deliver comprehensive design, engineering, labour, equipment, and materials for vault optimisation and capping works at the Low-Level Waste Repository (LLWR) in West Cumbria. The LLWR is the UK's national disposal facility for low-level radioactive waste from nuclear, medical, and defence industries. This project is part of a long-term programme to protect the environment and public health through closure engineering and additional disposal capacity over the next 15+ years. The contractor must demonstrate proven expertise in large-scale earthworks projects and have the necessary machinery and capabilities to complete work efficiently and on schedule. Key project deliverables include: final protective capping over trenches and vaults; design and construction of Vault 9 extension with retaining walls, leachate management system, and weather protection warehousing; design and construction of interim cap over closed Vault 9 sections; and site clearance. Works encompass excavation, backfill, piling, groundworks, drainage, demolition, aggregates supply, land remediation, and associated engineering and construction activities. Ideal candidates will have substantial experience managing complex radioactive waste facility projects.
