    Brief

The Department for Transport (DfT) is seeking specialist technical expertise to complete and finalise new road and rail noise calculation methods that will replace outdated standards from 1988 and 1995. Modern vehicle technologies, infrastructure designs, and recent environmental noise evidence are not reflected in current methods (CRTN and CRN). This project involves consolidating research outputs into a comprehensive four-part calculation method, developing an open-source reference implementation, completing validation tasks, and supporting beta testing. The deliverable will be a single, authoritative document and toolkit for calculating both road and rail noise that can be adopted by transport authorities. Suppliers should have expertise in noise modelling, acoustic standards development, software implementation, and technical documentation. The work will establish new industry standards for noise assessment across the UK transport sector.
