Manchester Airport Station Platform Expansion - Structural Demolition and Bridge Works

Manchester Airport station requires structural demolition and platform remodeling to accommodate longer train services and improve network capacity. This project is part of the Manchester and North West Transformation Programme and addresses identified capacity constraints at the airport. The demolition works include removal of an existing bridge structure, parapets, abutments, and associated concrete elements to enable platform extension or addition. Scope of work includes: installation and removal of rail track protection systems; structural enabling and controlled demolition of bridge components; removal and disposal of road/pavement surfacing, kerbs, and underground ducts; careful removal and storage of coping stones and pilaster caps for potential reuse; demolition of existing parapets, pilasters, precast and cill beams, and south abutment concrete; and demolition of bridge structural elements. All works must comply with rail industry safety standards and track possession requirements. The remodeled platforms will enable operation of two 144-meter trains on two of four platforms while maintaining existing services. This is a Tranche 1 priority project aligned with Network Rail, Transport for Greater Manchester, and Transport for the North strategic objectives.
