    Brief

The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) requires provision of the SafetyNET II service to disseminate Maritime Safety Information (MSI) including navigational warnings, meteorological forecasts, and emergency alerts to ships at sea. As the NAVAREA I and METAREA I Coordinator, the UK must provide internationally coordinated MSI services to vessels in its area of responsibility through approved Recognized Mobile Satellite Service (RMSS) providers in compliance with SOLAS 1974 and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). This service uses the International Enhanced Group Call (EGC) system to reach vessels in GMDSS Sea Area A3 and is critical for meeting the UK's international maritime safety obligations. Suppliers should be prepared to operate and maintain a reliable satellite-based messaging system that ensures continuous, compliant delivery of safety-critical information to the maritime community.
