Design of Invasive Species Surveillance and Monitoring Programme for Ireland

This is an opportunity to design a unified invasive species surveillance and monitoring programme for Ireland and Northern Ireland. Currently, invasive species monitoring is fragmented between the National Biodiversity Data Centre (Republic of Ireland) and the Centre for Environmental Data and Recording (Northern Ireland), with significant gaps in data collection and reporting. These gaps delay response to invasive species threats and hinder effective management. The project will review existing surveillance and monitoring programmes across both jurisdictions and recommend a new integrated system that efficiently captures and centralizes invasive species data. The work is part of the Shared Island Biosecurity and Invasive Species Initiative. Suppliers should have expertise in invasive species ecology, data management systems, surveillance programme design, and cross-jurisdictional coordination. The goal is to improve Ireland's ability to track invasive species distribution and enable faster, more effective management and prevention measures.
