Verification of International Medical Qualifications for GMC Registration

The General Medical Council (GMC) is seeking tender bids for primary source verification (PSV) services to verify the qualifications of international doctors, physician associates (PAs), and anaesthesia associates (AAs) applying for registration in the UK. Background: The GMC regulates and maintains the register of doctors, PAs, and AAs in the UK. All applicants must hold a registrable qualification (primary medical or associate qualification accepted by the GMC) and have this verified with their awarding body before registration is granted. While UK graduates have their qualifications verified proactively by UK institutions, international applicants require verification at the point of application. Scope: The GMC receives approximately 16-17,000 applications from international doctors annually, including those applying through the European qualification (REQ) route and other routes. Some applicants may also require additional qualifications to be verified depending on their registration pathway. Suppliers bidding for this contract will be responsible for contacting international awarding bodies to verify the authenticity and validity of applicants' registrable qualifications to support the GMC's registration decision-making process.
