Manchester Airport Station Platform Extension and OLE Works

Manchester Airport requires platform capacity expansion to accommodate longer train services planned for future demand. This project involves remodelling Manchester Airport Station through platform addition, extension, or new turnback facility provision to enable two 6x24m (144m) trains to operate on two of the four platforms. The work maintains all existing train operator services under current double-stacking conditions while supporting longer rolling stock deployment. The scheme is part of the Manchester and North West Transformation Programme (MNTP) Tranche 1, addressing recommendations from the Cross Manchester Capacity and Reliability Improvement Study. Suppliers should be prepared to deliver Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) specialist works as part of the station remodelling. This initiative aligns with strategic priorities of Network Rail, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), and Transport for the North (TfN) to enhance capacity and resilience across Manchester's rail network.
