    Brief

This contract opportunity involves enabling works, strip-out operations, and waste management support for the decommissioning of the Windscale Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (WAGR) facility at Sellafield. The WAGR (Building B50), a prototype AGR commissioned in 1962, is transitioning from Care and Maintenance to final decommissioning following reactor core removal in 2012. The facility contains Low-Level Waste (LLW) and Intermediate-Level Waste (ILW) requiring specialized radiological management. Key deliverables include: internal and external strip-out of equipment and fixtures; safe handling and disposal of radioactive and hazardous wastes; radiological surveys and site characterization; asbestos management and licensed removal; decontamination activities; temporary works including scaffolding and enclosures; asset reinstatement; plant modifications; and rapid-response support for safety-critical operational issues. Suppliers must demonstrate capability in nuclear decommissioning, radiological waste management, licensed asbestos removal, and SQEP (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel) resources. This is a framework contract opportunity managed by A2R JV (Altrad-Atkins Realis Remediation) for Sellafield Ltd's high-hazard risk reduction programme.
