Mental Health Support Teams Contract - NHS Somerset ICB

NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board (ICB) intends to award a contract for Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) serving children and young people across educational settings in Somerset. This is a direct award under the Provider Selection Regime (PSR) regulations. The contract runs from 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2030 with a total value of £13,434,965.17. MHSTs have operated successfully in Somerset since 2019, providing early intervention and mental health support within schools. The national programme is expanding towards 100% pupil population coverage by December 2029, and this contract will continue the established local model while supporting planned expansion. The selected provider demonstrates proven capability to deliver MHST services, including established relationships with schools across Somerset, experience supporting children and young people with mental health needs, delivery of community and school-based interventions, and strong partnership working with health, education, social care and voluntary sector organisations. The provider has effective referral, escalation and safeguarding processes in place. A 2025 service review confirmed effectiveness and positive performance, identifying opportunities for strengthened integration, improved productivity and continued expansion support. The provider has the organisational infrastructure and workforce capability to deliver MHST functions across Somerset localities.
