Mentoring Services for Young People at Risk of Violence in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire

The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction Partnership (NNVRP), part of the Nottinghamshire Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), is commissioning mentoring services for children and young people (CYP) at risk of serious violence. The service will operate across Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire, offering proactive engagement and support in multiple settings including police custody suites (Nottingham City and Mansfield), Nottingham Queens Medical Centre, and community-based locations. The mentoring program aims to improve mental health and wellbeing, reduce risk-taking behaviours, and build community resilience by working with young people most vulnerable to violence. This approach is based on the evidence-based Accident and Emergency (A&E) and Police Custody Navigator model, which has been identified by the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) as having potentially high impact on serious violence prevention. The service will accept referrals from hospitals, police custody sites, and partner organizations as agreed with the commissioner, contributing to the prevention and reduction of serious violence affecting under-18s in the area.
