Biodiversity Net Gain Off-Site Habitat Delivery for Water Supply Project

Southern Water's Hampshire Water Transfer and Water Recycling Project (HWTWRP) requires a contractor to deliver biodiversity net gain (BNG) solutions across Hampshire. Current Requirements: The project needs 201.77 off-site biodiversity units, consisting of 169.94 area habitat units, 29.69 hedgerow units, and 2.14 watercourse units. Required habitat types include neutral grassland (93.8 units), hedgerows (29.7 units), lowland mixed deciduous woodland (2.6 units), watercourses (2.1 units), and open mosaic habitat on previously developed land (73.3 units). Contractor Responsibilities: The successful contractor will be responsible for identifying and securing suitable off-site delivery sites, negotiating legal and financial arrangements, and implementing habitat management agreements. Solutions may include direct habitat bank delivery, build-to-order habitat creation, or innovative nature finance mechanisms. The contractor must also manage long-term stewardship, including monitoring and reporting over a minimum 30-year period, and prepare comprehensive habitat management and monitoring plans with regular biodiversity performance surveys and adaptive management.
