Permanent Way Works at Manchester Airport Railway Station

Manchester Airport railway station requires permanent way infrastructure works to support longer train services and increased capacity. The project involves remodelling the station's platforms to accommodate 144-meter trains, enabling two of the four platforms to operate with longer rolling stock while maintaining existing train operator services through improved double-stacking arrangements. This scheme is part of the Manchester and North West Transformation Programme (MNTP) Tranche 1, developed from the Cross Manchester Capacity and Reliability Improvement Study to enhance train service capacity and resilience across the region. Key scope of works includes: - Track renewals and modifications - Plain line track installation - S&C (switches and crossings) installation and modifications - Ballast excavation, placement and regulation - Stressing, welding and rail adjustments - Tamping and dynamic track stabilisation - Possession planning and delivery support - Rail plant and labour resources - Testing, handback and assurance documentation Suppliers should have experience in railway permanent way works, track installation, and major station infrastructure projects.
