Ulster Wildlife is seeking qualified contractors to remove invasive plant species from Ballynahone Bog Special Area of Conservation (SAC) as part of the PEAT+ cross-border peatland restoration project, funded by PEACEPLUS through the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). Scope of Work: - Remove rhododendron and cherry laurel from 6.1 hectares across 3 phases - Remove scrub vegetation from 2 hectares - Implement multiple treatment cycles to ensure effective control Project Details: These invasive species suppress native bog vegetation, lower water tables, and degrade habitat quality. Removing them will restore conditions for sphagnum mosses, peat-forming vegetation, and natural ecosystem recovery. Key Requirements: - Contractors must follow strict site conditions to minimize disturbance to priority habitats and species - Use provided GPS mapping app on smartphones to locate intervention areas and track field position - Attendance at mandatory site visit required - Work must be completed according to detailed schedules and specifications This tender is part of a larger habitat restoration initiative on Ballynahone Bog designed to support long-term peatland recovery and biodiversity.
