Electric Vehicle Battery Policy Development Support

The UK Government's Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT) programme is seeking quotes from qualified suppliers or groups to provide technical assistance in South Africa. As South Africa's automotive industry transitions to electric vehicles (EVs), there are both challenges and opportunities. This transition could threaten traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) production but also presents significant chances for local industrial growth, job creation, and increased value addition. A key aspect of this change is establishing a competitive battery value chain that utilizes South Africa's and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region's critical mineral resources. This will help meet local content requirements and secure duty-free access under trade agreements. This Request for Quotation (RFQ) aims to gather expert support to compile existing research and policy work into a draft policy document along with an Implementation Strategy and Plan. The objective is to steer the development of South Africa's battery value chain in line with the EV White Paper, SAAM 2035, and broader just transition goals, ensuring sustainable automotive manufacturing, regional economic growth, and adherence to international trade standards.
