Retail EPOS Till System Upgrade - University Hospitals Birmingham

University Hospitals Birmingham is seeking suppliers to upgrade its Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) systems across retail areas at Queen Elizabeth, Good Hope, Heartlands, and Solihull hospitals. The project will modernise outdated till hardware and software to improve operational efficiency, payment processing, customer experience, and reporting capabilities. Key requirements include: replacement of legacy till hardware (terminals, screens, drawers, barcode scanners, and printers); upgrade of retail EPOS software; integration with existing payment providers (WorldPay/Verifone); enhanced back-office functionality and reporting; improved cybersecurity and IT compliance; and evaluation of SQL hosting versus cloud-based solutions. The project also includes reviewing self-serve kiosk implementations. Capital funding has been approved for year-one hardware procurement and implementation, with recurring annual costs for software licensing, support, maintenance, and merchant services to be funded through departmental budgets. Suppliers should demonstrate experience in healthcare retail technology, payment system integration, and compliance with NHS IT governance standards.
