    Brief

This contract is for the Brewery Turnback project, an enhancement scheme funded by the Department for Transport (DfT). The project, previously known as the Manchester Victoria East Turnback, aims to improve the capacity and resilience of the railway network based on findings from the Central Manchester Capacity and Performance study. The work involves designing and constructing a West-facing turnback facility at Brewery Junction. Currently, terminating trains at Victoria station occupy through platforms, limiting their availability for other services. The new turnback facility will allow for better operational flexibility, enabling trains to turn back without occupying the through platforms. This will also serve as a recovery measure during disruptions. The turnback will accommodate trains up to 6 cars long (26 meters), allowing access from Platforms 3-6 at Manchester Victoria station. The project is part of the MNTP programme, which identified the need for this turnback facility to enhance operational efficiency. The design and development of earlier phases (ES2-4) were completed by WSP Limited and approved by Network Rail. However, there are assumptions in the designs regarding the completion of related works and the availability of as-built designs and records. The scope of work includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of new overhead line equipment (OLE) foundations on the UP/Down Rochdale Fast line and the new turnback area between Dalton Street and Miles Platting Junction. This will involve a combination of piled foundations, concrete pads, and wall-mounted installations, along with all necessary deliverables such as redline drawings and participation in AMP016 walkouts.
