Brewery Turnback - Devegetation Works

This contract opportunity involves the Brewery Turnback enhancement scheme, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT). Formerly known as the Manchester Victoria East Turnback, this project has been prioritized for early development to improve capacity and resilience in the Central Manchester area. The work includes the design and delivery of a West-facing turnback facility at Brewery Junction. Currently, the platforms at Victoria station are used for both through and terminating trains, which limits availability for through services. The new turnback facility will allow for better operational flexibility, enabling trains to turn back more efficiently and improving service recovery during disruptions. The turnback will accommodate trains up to 6 cars in length (26 meters), allowing access from Platforms 3-6 at Manchester Victoria station. As part of the Manchester Network Transformation Programme (MNTP), it has been identified that this turnback facility will enhance operational flexibility. Currently, terminating trains occupy the through platforms for 5-10 minutes, which impacts performance and scheduling. The new turnback will alleviate this issue. The scope of work includes the removal of existing vegetation from the construction area, including invasive species such as Japanese Knotweed (JKW).
