    Brief

Since 2010, annual register surveys and supplementary sample surveys have been conducted and evaluated. Switzerland has developed a modern statistical census system that allows for the continuous monitoring of the structure and development of the population, households, buildings, and living conditions. The investments are sustainable, and the system can be continuously adjusted. The system includes two types of surveys: register surveys and sample surveys. The required data primarily comes from the annual evaluation of the population registers of municipalities, cantons, and the federal government, as well as the Federal Register of Buildings and Dwellings. Missing data in the registers are collected through the annual structural survey. Additionally, alternating sample surveys on important issues in the areas of 'mobility and transport', 'education and training', 'health', 'families and generations', and 'language, religion, and culture' are conducted every five years, along with annual omnibus surveys on current and changing topics.
