    Brief

The Paul-Schmook-Schule consists of two connected buildings, I and II, with a foyer linking them. Currently, this site houses the European School Saarland, which started in 2021, and part of the Technical Vocational Training Center TGBBZ 2 Saarbrücken Mügelsberg. The TGBBZ 2 area is expected to relocate to Mügelsberg by 2028 after the completion of expansion areas. The Paul-Schmook-Schule is to be renovated and expanded to provide sufficient interim space for the European School, considering that by mid-2028, TGBBZ 2 will vacate the premises, allowing the entire school complex to be available for the European School Saarland's growth. After the European School's departure, this site should accommodate the necessary space for a three-stream high school. The timing of the European School's move depends on a yet-to-be-made decision regarding its final location. The planning must integrate both the interim use of the European School and the new use as a high school, ensuring that the transition to a high school can occur with minimal major renovations. Additionally, due to the previously planned vocational school format, there are deficiencies in the schoolyard and available sports facilities. The planning should address these deficiencies and, as far as feasible on the property, resolve them. An increase in available outdoor space and a high quality of stay are expected for the schoolyard area, along with considerations for climate adaptation measures. For sports activities, at least a one-court sports hall is required, ideally a two-court sports hall. Any potential deterioration in existing space situations should be minimized and taken into account. If a one-court sports hall is implemented, a solution for future expansion to include an additional sports hall court should be provided.
