NERC Emergency Research Funding for Natural Disasters and Environmental Events

This funding supports researchers who need to quickly collect important data in response to unexpected environmental research opportunities created by natural events such as earthquakes, droughts, floods, wildfires, or rare ecosystem occurrences. Projects must be completed within one year and can receive up to £100,000 in funding, covering 80% of the full economic cost. This scheme is designed for time-sensitive research where delays would result in loss of critical data or missed scientific opportunities. Eligible researchers should be prepared to mobilize rapidly when qualifying events occur.
