    Brief

This £6,000,000 funding opportunity supports the establishment of a doctoral focal award programme in chip design and verification. It is designed for UK research organisations to develop the next generation of PhD researchers with expertise in very large-scale integration (VLSI) design and systems-on-chip (SoC) technologies. The programme will train cohorts of doctoral researchers with industry-relevant design skills and knowledge to strengthen the UK's semiconductor sector and advance the Government's AI Hardware Plan. Eligible organisations should have strong links to industry and demonstrate capacity to deliver interdisciplinary doctoral training in advanced chip design methodologies and verification techniques.
