Lyophilisation Services for Inactivated Pathogens

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is seeking suppliers to provide lyophilisation (freeze-drying) services for inactivated, irradiated pathogens as part of its pandemic preparedness strategy. This Request for Information (RFI) is issued to understand market capabilities and refine requirements—responses are not binding and UKHSA will not enter into contracts based on RFI replies. Suppliers should have experience handling irradiated viral and bacterial materials in liquid form, developing and optimizing lyophilisation protocols with various stabilization matrices, maintaining ISO 9001 quality systems, and performing product quality control testing including thermal stability and contamination assessment. The scope involves lyophilising approximately 20 pathogens over four years in vials of 0.3–2 mL volume, with batch sizes of 6–100 mL and an estimated five batches per year.
