Contractors Wanted: New Community Centre Build in Derry

Derry City and Strabane District Council is seeking qualified contractors to build a new single-storey Community Centre at Ringfort Road, Derry. The 610m² facility will include a multi-purpose hall, offices, meeting rooms, kitchen, toilets, community library, and associated areas. The project encompasses all architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering work, with some design elements remaining the contractor's responsibility as detailed in tender documents. Works include site preparation, piled foundations, drainage, utility connections, sewer diversion, sustainable drainage systems (SUDS), car parking, access roads, paths, and landscaping across a 0.40-hectare site. Key challenges include managing culverted watercourses, site regrading, and obtaining statutory approvals. The adjacent playpark development and the need to keep the existing Sure Start facility operational and accessible throughout construction add further complexity. The design meets Building Control standards, sustainability requirements (SBEM assessment), and incorporates full accessibility and fire safety provisions. The contract period is 12 months.
