Cyclotron Vault Decommissioning - Pre-Market Engagement

Cardiff University is conducting pre-market engagement to inform the development of a future procurement for the decommissioning of a cyclotron vault facility. The project involves removal of the cyclotron and associated systems, decommissioning of activated components, and removal of activated structural elements (sacrificial walls) within the heavily shielded vault. This is a specialist radiological decommissioning project requiring expertise in radiation safety, dismantling, structural removal, and compliant handling and disposal of activated materials. The University is seeking expressions of interest from organisations with experience in radiological decommissioning of specialist facilities, cyclotron or medical isotope production facility decommissioning, removal and disposal of activated materials, nuclear or radiological engineering and dismantling, or radioactive waste handling and disposal. Through this engagement, the University aims to gather feedback on technical specification refinement, evaluation criteria, delivery and contracting models, key risks and regulatory considerations, and indicative programme durations. This pre-market engagement is non-competitive and participation does not confer any advantage in future procurement processes. Interested organisations should submit an Expression of Interest response document via the Cardiff University e-tender portal (In-Tend) by 17 July 2026 at 17:00. No costs will be reimbursed and no contractual obligations arise from participation.
