Refurbishment of Abington Library Back Room and Outdoor Space

West Northampton Council is inviting local suppliers to bid for comprehensive refurbishment works at Abington Library. The project involves transforming an underutilized back room and outdoor area into modern, comfortable, hireable private spaces to generate income for the council. Scope of Works: The refurbishment includes supply and installation of a new flat roof, energy-efficient external windows and doors, internal flooring, and decoration. Kitchen units and modern heating, insulation, and electrical systems will be installed to provide an energy-efficient solution. A covered linkway will connect the library to the back room for safe customer access. Existing cloakrooms and kitchen areas will be refurbished with new tiling, doors, and roofing to ensure safe and hygienic facilities. The neglected garden area will be cleared and transformed into valuable outdoor event space with attractive hard paving for an all-weather, low-maintenance, and safe surface. Key Requirements: - Organisation must be based in or have an established business operation in Northampton - Minimum annual turnover of £600,000 - Ability to undertake Principal Contractor responsibilities under CDM Regulations 2015 and the Building Safety Act - Mandatory site visit: 2 July 2026 at 10:00 (no alternative dates available) - Estimated project duration: 4-5 months - Estimated budget: £300,000 An asbestos removal and demolition survey is underway and will be issued shortly.
