    Brief

The University is seeking to procure a Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) Higher Education Licence through direct award. This licence is essential for lawful copying, digitisation, storage and distribution of copyrighted material from books, journals, magazines and digital publications for teaching, learning, administration and research purposes. CLA is the sole UK collective licensing organisation authorised by publishers and authors to grant these permissions to higher education institutions. The licence ensures the University's compliance with copyright law and enables staff and students to use copyrighted extracts legally. This is not a discretionary service but a legal requirement; no alternative supplier can provide equivalent coverage of the same copyright repertoire. The estimated contract value is £388,000 over 48 months (excluding VAT). The University reserves the right to terminate or renew the subscription at its discretion.
