    Brief

DESNZ (Department for Energy Security and Net Zero) is seeking a consortium to deliver a comprehensive research programme that builds the evidence base for decarbonising the UK industrial sector and managing carbon. The programme spans four core research areas: industrial fuel switching (including electrification and alternative fuels), resource and energy efficiency, carbon capture and storage technologies, and lifecycle assessment methods. Additional work packages will address emerging evidence needs, data management, and stakeholder engagement. The research will combine literature reviews, data collection, stakeholder interviews, modelling, and policy analysis to support industrial decarbonisation decisions across multiple sectors. Outputs will include reports, datasets, models, decision-support tools, case studies, and policy briefings. The programme will be co-designed with policy stakeholders to ensure relevance and will adapt to emerging policy requirements. A consortium structure is preferred due to the breadth of expertise required, including industrial sector knowledge, decarbonisation technologies, sustainability assessment, cost analysis, supply chain understanding, and policy expertise. A supplier event is scheduled for 5 February at 12:30pm on MS Teams, featuring a DESNZ presentation and consortium formation discussion.
