Aberford Park Brook and Lake Restoration Project

Hertsmere Borough Council is seeking experienced contractors to design, obtain permits for, and implement improvements to Aberford Park's brook and lake system in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. The watercourse (part of Tykes Water) currently faces several challenges: excessive silt has reduced lake depth, fountains are malfunctioning due to sediment buildup, algal blooms and odors occur during summer months, and invasive reed growth persists due to low water flows and seasonal level changes. Major restoration work was last completed in 2008, approximately 18 years ago. The site includes a decommissioned oil interceptor that was historically used to prevent industrial pollution. Contractors should be prepared to address sediment management, water quality improvement, fountain restoration, and vegetation control. The successful contractor will be responsible for all design, permitting, and implementation phases of the project. This is an opportunity to restore an important recreational water feature while addressing environmental concerns affecting the surrounding residential, office, and light industrial community.
