    Brief

Birmingham City Council is seeking to establish a framework agreement for the provision of Digital Autopsy Services (CTPM - Computed Tomography Post-Mortem). This service involves non-invasive post-mortem scanning of deceased individuals using CT scanners, performed by qualified radiographers. The resulting scans are analyzed by GMC-registered radiologists who produce detailed digital autopsy reports suggesting the cause of death for consideration by pathologists at Birmingham Central Mortuary. This innovative service supports the Coroner's duty to investigate certain deaths under Section 1 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 and provides families and religious communities with an alternative to invasive post-mortem examinations. The framework agreement will run from 1 October 2026 for 2 years with a possible 1-year extension, subject to performance and budget availability. This is a call-off arrangement with no guaranteed expenditure commitment.
