Mortuary and Post-Mortem Examination Services for Staffordshire Coroner

This is an opportunity to provide comprehensive mortuary and post-mortem examination services to support the Senior Coroner for Staffordshire in investigating deaths across the county. The service will include: secure receipt, storage, care and release of deceased persons; facilities and qualified staff to perform routine, complex and specialist post-mortem examinations; appropriate viewing and identification facilities for bereaved relatives and authorized observers; digital post-mortem imaging services where required; and accommodation of non-standard cases including bariatric, custody-related and emergency department deaths. The service will operate Monday to Friday, 08:00-16:00 with out-of-hours on-call support, and will coordinate effectively with Coroners' Officers, police, funeral directors, healthcare providers and other stakeholders. Post-mortem examinations will primarily be conducted at Royal Stoke University Hospital Mortuary or other appropriate facilities within the pathology service network. The service must comply with all relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, professional standards and health and safety protocols.
