Food Loss and Waste Analysis in Indonesian Rice Supply Chains

WRAP is seeking an experienced consultant or team to conduct a comprehensive food loss and waste hotspot analysis across Indonesia's rice supply chain. The project will examine all stages from farming through household consumption, including on-farm practices, collection points, storage facilities, milling and processing operations, distribution and transport, retail, and consumer level. The consultant will collect operational data on food quantities, economic value, and methane emissions; identify root causes of losses and waste; design and pilot practical, scalable interventions at 1-2 demonstration sites (such as milling facilities); and measure results against agreed performance indicators. The work will quantify reductions in food waste and methane emissions while improving operational efficiency and economic performance. A key deliverable is a scalability plan demonstrating how successful interventions can be expanded across Indonesia's rice sector. This opportunity addresses the critical issue of food waste as a major source of methane emissions, offering both environmental and economic benefits through improved resource efficiency in rice supply chains.
