    Brief

The UK Armed Forces increasingly operate in cold environments to support NATO's deterrence operations in the High North and Eastern flank regions. However, cases of peripheral cold injuries among deployed Service Personnel are rising, even during short deployments. This research opportunity aims to address this growing health challenge by developing two key tools: (1) a prediction tool to identify Service Personnel susceptible to cold injuries before deployment, and (2) a clinical assessment tool to enable safe and efficient evaluation of injured personnel for return to cold environments. The successful contractor will conduct laboratory-based research primarily using climate chamber facilities in North Yorkshire to develop these evidence-based solutions. This work will enhance operational capability by reducing cold injury incidents and improving personnel deployability across year-round operations. Procurement value: £239,315.00 (Ex VAT).
