Mechanical Scrub Clearance at Goss Moor National Nature Reserve

Natural England is seeking a qualified contractor with proven experience on designated ecological sites (SSSI and SAC) to clear approximately 2.1 hectares of light to mature scrub across three work areas at Goss Moor National Nature Reserve. The work involves mechanical clearance using tree shears/snips combined with manual techniques, with all arisings disposed of through controlled in-situ burning. Chemical stump treatment is required for all cut stumps exceeding 2 inches in diameter to prevent regrowth. The contract runs from late August to late September 2026 as part of a wider habitat management programme to remove scrub and tree encroachment from priority wetland habitats. Timely completion is essential and may lead to scope expansion for additional clearance areas. Contractors must demonstrate experience working on protected sites and ability to meet strict programme deadlines.
