    Brief

RSSB is conducting preliminary market engagement for two related research procurements (T1420 and T1421) focused on variability in freight vehicle braking-system components. The research programme will identify representative wagons, develop and execute static brake-testing plans, and conduct detailed analysis of results. RSSB plans to issue two separate competitive tenders, with the allocation of phases and activities to be finalized based on supplier feedback. This engagement seeks to: understand supplier interest and capability for proposed phases; validate that procurement and delivery timescales are realistic; determine how to manage additional testing or information requirements during delivery; and gather feedback on data handover, communication, governance, and coordination between multiple suppliers. RSSB has established the core objectives and technical scope; this engagement is not intended to redesign the fundamental requirement. Interested suppliers should review the detailed briefing document and submission questions available through the Delta eSourcing portal.
