District Heating Network Reactive Maintenance Services

The University of Dundee seeks a Framework contract supplier to provide reactive maintenance services for its underground district heating network (DHN) that serves the city campus. The DHN supplies thermal energy and domestic hot water to academic buildings, student accommodation, and the NHS Dundee Dental Hospital, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety requirements and maintaining comfortable environmental conditions for staff, students, patients, and research animals. The DHN infrastructure consists primarily of Schedule 40 and heavyweight mild carbon steel pipework distributed through purpose-built underground brick service ducts beneath footpaths, roads, and landscaped areas. The network is extensive, with much of the original infrastructure dating to 1962 and still operational. The system has been expanded multiple times over the past 20 years to accommodate campus growth and increased thermal demand, with the most recent major extension completed in 2014. This opportunity replaces the expiring Framework contract (UoD-EFM-145-TC-2022) and is open to the existing supplier or new suppliers. Successful bidders should have experience in maintaining large-scale district heating systems, working with underground pipework infrastructure, and providing responsive reactive maintenance services to complex institutional campuses.
