Cycling Skills Training for Children

Bikeability is a nationally administered cycling skills programme that teaches children to ride bicycles safely and confidently. The programme is managed by the Bikeability Trust on behalf of the Department for Transport. Participants gain practical cycling experience and are more likely to cycle to school and for leisure activities following completion. By developing cycling skills in childhood, the programme increases the likelihood that these children will maintain active lifestyles into adulthood. Bikeability supports government priorities around active travel and climate change by encouraging a shift away from car use towards cycling for everyday journeys. The programme creates opportunities for suppliers and organisations to deliver training, provide equipment, or support programme administration.
