Catering Services Contract for Aycliffe Secure Centre

Durham County Council is conducting preliminary market engagement for a comprehensive catering service at Aycliffe Secure Centre, a secure children's home for up to 34 young people aged 10-18 years. The service will operate 365 days per year, providing two course lunches and evening meals with at least two main dish options daily, plus weekend brunch, packed lunches, and hospitality catering. The successful provider will manage all kitchen operations, staffing, food safety compliance, and safeguarding requirements while accommodating special dietary needs, allergens, and cultural/religious preferences. Key responsibilities include menu development, sustainability initiatives, themed food events, and ongoing engagement with young people to shape food offerings. The Council seeks experienced suppliers from education, healthcare, residential care, custodial or similarly regulated environments with proven expertise in safeguarding, nutrition, compliance, and stakeholder engagement. The contract commences 1 September 2027 for 36 months with two optional 24-month extension periods. Approximate annual contract value is up to £280,000. An open tender procurement process is anticipated in Autumn/Winter 2026, with full tender specifications to follow.
